Join us on Sunday May 18th at Refugio State Beach for a Paddle to Protect the Coast! This will commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Plains All American pipeline spill at Refugio and call for the end of new offshore oil drilling and to stop the restart of the Las Flores pipeline system through Refugio and Gaviota State Beaches that spilled in 2015.
This event welcomes any type of human-powered paddlecraft, and if you don’t paddle, we welcome everyone to come check it out. At 8:30, breakfast burritos and coffee (bring your mug:)) will be available. The event starts at 9:00, and we expect to paddle out 100-200 yards and form a circle around 9:30. Parking will be covered. Bring a filled water bottle and coffee mug in addition to your paddle gear.
Please click here register in advance to sign our waiver and expedite the check-in onsite.
Texas-based oil company Sable Offshore continues to push forward with plans to restart oil production from the three platforms of the Santa Ynez Unit and convey the oil through the same corroded Las Flores pipeline system responsible for the devastating 2015 oil spill. The Santa Barbara Independent recently posted this great overview of the issue and campaign. Surfrider is part of a broad coalition of groups working on the campaign.
