Mark Morey (Chair) Mark has been with the SB chapter since 1992 and a member since 1989. His foray in environmental protection was a presentation to the Coastal Commission about Ellwood Shores, receiving a standing ovation. Mark has devoted half his life to preservation efforts of the Gaviota Coast — a stretch of coast that has given him so much. He has a PhD in Chemistry, a radio show on KCSB, bodyboards, and surfs.

Grace Goldberg (Vice Chair) Grace has been a Surfrider member since 2016 and an Executive Committee member since 2017. She holds a B.S. and M.S. in Earth Systems from Stanford studying scientific diving and sea turtle conservation. She is currently a laboratory project manager at UCSB’s Marine Science Institute.

Ken Palley (Treasurer) Ken Palley is currently the chapter treasurer. He can regularly be found surfing and SUPing at Campus Point, Devs, and Naples. He has been active with the chapter for two decades and has served as chapter chair and secretary before tackling the job as treasurer.

Deane Plaister (Secretary) Deane has been a Surfrider Foundation member since 1993. He currently serves as the chapter Secretary. Deane has served on the SB Executive Committee since 1995. Deane has served many roles with the Chapter including Volunteer Coordinator.

Everett Lipman Everett Lipman became a Surfrider member in 2001. He was elected to the Santa Barbara Chapter Executive Committee in 2004. For more than a decade, Everett has been working to save our local beaches from the destructive effects of coastal armor.


Paul Alessio
(Events Coordinator) Paul is an avid surfer, backpacker, and environmentalist from San Diego, CA. He received his B.S. in geology from Cal State Long Beach, has worked as an engineering geologist, and for the USGS. Currently, he spends most of his time teaching and doing research at UCSB, which is focused on slope processes, sea cliff erosion, and landform evolution.

Bob Keats Bob earned a B.A./ M.A. in English, at UCSB. He has been a Surfrider member since 1991. Bob started the Chapter’s Gaviota Coast Task Force in 1992. He co-founded the South Coast Environmental Alliance in 1993. He started the Gaviota Coast Committee in 1993, later known as Gaviota Coast Conservancy, and Bob served as President of the GCC, 1996-1999. He has served on the SB Chapter EC since 1996, and as past Vice Chair.

Matt Wallace Matt has been a Surfrider Foundation member since 1997. He has served on the SB Executive Committee since 2007. Matt is the SB Chapter’s Events Impresario — developing and promoting the chapter and its mission.

Tori Kampmann Tori has been a Surfrider Foundation member since 2016, and was previously a core volunteer and Ocean Friendly Restaurants Coordinator for the Long Beach Chapter. She is a Naturalist for Ambassadors of the Environment at the Ocean Futures Society.

Morgan Visalli Morgan has been a Surfrider member since 2014, and Ocean Friendly Restaurants Coordinator since 2018. She received a Master of Environmental Science & Management degree from UCSB and is currently a researcher at UCSB’s Marine Science Institute.

Emily Vizzo Emily is an author and educator currently serving as Artist in Residence with the National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis. She’s currently pursuing Educator Certification with the National Geographic Society.
